Pencil Drawer

This desk was made from a 1905 Ludwig upright that was used as a Vaudeville piano by a local singer over 80 years ago. The desk looks like a piano when closed. The round doors on the top shelf were made from another upright piano fallboard. The desk has a magazine rack hidden in the bottom compartment and also has two long shelves inside the bottom hidden behind the bottom cover. There is also a long pencil drawer behind the fallboard that is hidden when the desk is open. On the top of the desk there are two tall doors on the left, each containing 2 shelves. There are two small doors as well on the left. On the right there are two medium drawers and room for a standard size inkjet printer. I used mahogany, oak, and tulip poplar cabinet grade lumber with mirrored grain on this project. The finish is red mahogony and cherry. The original piano pedals are also included with the cabinet.

I started working on it over my Christmas break. It should be completed within the next week (Jan. 14, 2000). The finished desk was sold to Rich Papke in Pittsburgh, PA.
