What is a pianodesk and
why do I make them?
A "pianodesk" is
just what it says, a piano made into a desk. Before the
advent of television, radio and computers, the piano was
the dominant source of entertainment in America. Having a
piano in the house was as much a status symbol as the
automobile is today. Some estimates show that there are
over 10 million pianos in the United States. Many of
these pianos, especially uprights, are made from rare or
extinct woods and have a quality of craftsmanship that is
unmatched in today's world of "sawdust and
spit" plywood furniture. Unfortunately, most of
these great works of art are going to the landfill
instead of the restoration shop. Even with restoration,
it is hard to sell an upright piano for the cost of
labor. With this fact in mind, I have decided to do my
part to ensure that at least some of these ancient
beauties are put back into the home where they belong and
once again become a useful and cherished member of the
family.
